About this chart
This chart shows the M2 Money Supply in the United States. M2 is a measure of the money supply that includes M1 (currency, demand deposits, and other liquid deposits) plus so-called "near money": savings deposits, money market securities, and time deposits such as CDs. M2 is a critical factor in forecasting inflation — as the money supply expands, inflation tends to follow. The optional S&P 500 overlay helps visualize how equity markets correlate with monetary expansion over time. Data sourced from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED).
