About This Chart
This chart approximates the percentage of existing coins whose acquisition price was lower (in profit) or higher (in loss) than the current price. It uses the full distribution of historical daily closing prices as a proxy for on-chain realized price data.
Usage: When BTC makes a new all-time high, nearly 100% of supply is in profit. Historically, the crossing of supply in profit and loss lines has been a necessary condition for market cycle bottoms. Applying a moving average helps identify overheated areas — for example, the 50D SMA of supply in profit reaching 97%+ has historically been a decent indicator of short-term pullbacks.
Note: This is a price-history approximation. The actual on-chain metric (from CryptoQuant or Glassnode) tracks UTXO realized prices and will differ, especially during periods of high exchange activity. The general shape and turning points, however, are very similar.
